Does American need prison reform?
One of the most common things we hear from the prisoners who respond to our monthly letter is their eagerness for prison reform.
These are often middle class people who barely got in trouble a day in theirs lives. Those are often the people who were thrown in jail after January 6.
They had no reason to pay attention to prison. After their experience, they often recognize what an absolute mess the American prison system is — justice is not served, but it is rife with injustice, double standards, widespread waste, and massive shortages. That is the type of stories we often hear.
And we often hear an eagerness to help put an end to the injustices and to bring about prison reform.
We hope to see all political prisoners released from US prisons. There is no purpose for having political prisoners in the United States. In fact, the idea of putting a person in prison for their political views is about as un-American as one can get.
I am grateful to all who have helped make that happen, as is the rest of our team at Amnesty National.
To further support our work, please make a donation here. Anyone giving $500 or more will be invited to add a some encouraging words in our next mailing to the J6 political prisoner.
Thank you for your help.
